This Could Be The Night with Henry Diltz and Harry Nilsson from Best Of Rodney On The ROQ

From Rhino Records

A long-time fixture on the Sunset Strip (where he's the honorary mayor), Rodney Bingenheimer has been "making the scene" since the mid-'60s. A veteran of more than 13 years as a DJ on Los Angeles' leading alternative radio station KROQ-FM, Rodney has been instrumental in breaking dozens of new bands, from The Runaways to The Go-Gos to The Bangles.

THE BEST OF RODNEY ON THE ROQ compiles the highlights of the three-volume series issued on vinyl by Posh Boy in the early 1980s. The generous track selection includes an eclectic mix of punk, pop, and celebrity oddities heard first (or exclusively) on Rodney's Sunday night show.

The Characters are featured on two tracks. "This Is Goodbye" was produced by Chip Douglas in Hawaii in 1987.
The band also backs Henry Diltz on "This Could Be the Night."
Other artists on the CD include The Bangles, Dramarama, Nina Hagen, Agent Orange, Redd Cross, Circle Jerks, Sky Saxon, The Vandals, The Gleaming Spires, and more.

From the CD liner notes:

"The Characters are on the verge of great things, having just finished a tour opening for Rodney pal Joan Jett, and having been taken under the wing of Joan's manager, Kenny Laguna. In many ways, they are in a similar position to where The Bangles stood five years ago. If they can work as hard as the girls did, they have a chance to make it. We wish them and all the other young groups reaching for success the luck they most certainly need."

"Here, as a snapshot of where they currently are, is the song "This Is Goodbye" produced by sixties legend Chip Douglas, producer of The Monkees, Linda Rondstadt, and The Turtles."
- Robbie Fields -

Rodney's legendary show continues to bring new music to the SoCal audience.
